Keyboardist for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, Danny Federici, has temporarily left the group to receive treatment for melanoma.  Stepping up to replace Federici is Charles Giordano, who has previously played with Springsteen with his Seeger Sessions band.  Giordana will take over keyboarding duties beginning on Sunday with show in Madrid.

Federici’s last show before his leave of absence on Monday was in Boston and included several songs that prominently feature the keyboard, including “Kitty’s Back,” “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out” and “4th of July, Asbury Park.”

In a statement released by Springsteen:

“Danny is one of the pillars of our sound and has played beside me as a great friend for more than 40 years. We all eagerly await his healthy and speedy return.”
