Quaids Sue Drug Manufacturer
Dennis Quaid and his wife, Kimberly, are suing the Baxter Healthcare Corp., which manufacture of the anti-coagulant drug Heparin. The Quaids’ newborn twins, Thomas Boone and Zoe Grace, accidentally received a massive overdose of the drug last month while they were hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
In the lawsuit, the Quaids claim Baxter was liable and negligent due to the packaging of its 10-unit-per-milliliter vial of Heparin, which closely resembles the 10,000-unit-per-milliliter container of the drug. Susan E. Loggans, an attorney for the couple, has confirmed the twins were previously in critical condition, but are now doing well and were able to go home Tuesday.
The Quaids said in their lawsuit that the vials should have been recalled after three children died in Indiana from a similar incident involving an overdose of Heparin.
Filed in Chicago, the Quaids’ lawsuit seeks more than $100,000.00 in damages.
