Johnny Carson Is Number 1
TV Land is scheduled to air a two-hour special on Friday, November 16 at 8 p.m. EST, where it will count down the Top 50 television icons, beginning with Larry Hagman and winding it’s way down to Johnny Carson, who tops the list. The special will feature mini-profiles of each icon.
A TV icon can be described as “someone who jumps off the screen into your home,”says Henry Winkler, who comes in at number 32 on the list, while Regis Philbin (number 27) says it could have more to do with stability: “If you hang around long enough, they call you an icon.”

The list also recognises Lassie, Kermit, the entire cast of the original Not Ready for Primetime Players from NBC’s “Saturday Night Live, ” Jennifer Aniston, Jon Stewart and David Letterman.
During the show, viewers will be encouraged to participate via text-message their choice for the No. 1 “TV Icon” and the audience choice will be revealed at the shows end.
